The Chronicles of Heather (the Stray Who Came to Stay.) (Download)
Since the summer of 2014, I have been in love …. with a cat. The cat was a stray, just one of many we had seen over the years. At some point I was thinking back to the first moments of falling in love with the cat. I thought about the journey my husband and I took from cat-less (and happy with that) to adopting the stray who came to stay.
Now that Heather is our cat, I did not want to forget any of the details, so I decided to write our story. It was meant to be a memoir, for my own benefit. But my mom, who has never met Heather, fell in love with her too. She is a cat person. I decided to have the book bound, and send her a copy as a surprise. As I began writing, and adding photographs I had been taking all along, the book took on a life of its own. I began showing it to people, and everyone who read it told me that “cat people” would love it. So it was official. I wrote a book.
This book is obviously a departure for me. There is no music in it. It is the story of a sentimental journey…from “no cat” to adopting Heather and beyond. It is a sweet, true story with lots of full-color photos and 10 poems I wrote along the way. The book has 36 pages.
Some comments:
“Hi Cindy, I just finished the book and loved it. I’ve been following your stories about Heather on Facebook but reading the book was fun. Your poetry is awesome too.” Cheri E, NC
“I have been enjoying your story about your adventures with Heather. The poems are so fun. Your descriptions are delightful. Your struggles with yourself and Dwight are well thought out (by Heather they were perfectly well thought out!!!!).” Betty T, CA
“The book arrived yesterday. I read and enjoyed Heather’s story last night. I, too, was a dyed-in-the-wool dog person exclusively. Perhaps, it astounds me more than anyone else that I now cannot imagine my world sans cat.” Keith R, TX
“I just finished your book. It is awesome. You tell your stories so well and the poems fit right in. Also the photos. It was so much better than I thought it would be. I know everyone will enjoy it. Wish it could be sold all over. It is truly amazing.” Sue F, OH
“This is such a great story and you are such a great writer. What a good story teller you are and I wanted you to know. Also, your poems are such a joy. Thanks so much. You should write another book.” Phyllis M, OH
